Government Employee Sextorting and Cyberstalking at Work

How much free time do government employees have at work? Well Michael C. Ford a former State Department civilian employee had too much time. From his desk at the embassy in London between January 2013 and May 2015 Ford used a government computer to hack 450 private email accounts and sextort 75 women. Ford has been sentenced to 5 years in prison.

While at work he sent emails to thousands of woman pretending to be a member of a web company’s email deletion team demanding their password so their accounts can be reviewed, or their accounts would be deleted. He used the information to comb for nude photos, embarrassing personal information and other data to extort these women; But not for money. He demanded more nude photos.

Ford was caught as the result of an investigation launched when a victim in Kentucky filed a complaint. He eventually plead guilty admitting to 75 counts of extortion. I want to know why no one noticed he wasn’t doing his job for more than 2 years.
