Ransomware attacks have been growing exponentially making anti-virus companies scramble to keep up with the latest attacks. One of these companies, Bitdefender, takes a new tactic and makes it available for FREE.
The Bitdefender solution makes it appear as though your computer is already infected with current versions of Ransomware. Kind of like a vaccine of sorts.
Developers of the more successful ransomware malware go out of their way to make sure you get exactly what you pay for. If previous victims report that the criminals kept their word new victims are more likely to pay up. Many of these crooks even guarantee, sometimes for an extra fee and sometimes as incentive to pay, that you won’t get re-infected. It’s this little caveat that the Bitdefender tool exploits.
Bitdefender warns that their tool doesn’t fool all ransomware, only the most widespread. The best solution is layered security. Some of those layers would be the use of firewalls (hardware and software), up to date operating systems, up to date anti-virus software and careful use.
Treat of your internet activity like a walk in Bangkok. Don’t wander down dark alleys; stay away from known criminals; don’t open a package if you don’t have some idea what’s in it; if a deal looks too good to be true than it is; if you feel like you’re in danger than you are so leave; not all men are men. and not all women are women, so think before you click.
Bitdefender’s solution is an excellent layer to add to your protection and can be found here.
