FBI Shuts Down Silk Road

The FBI took Ross William Ulbricht into custody on charges of narcotics trafficking, money laundering and computer hacking

The Silk Road website, established in 2011, has provided more than 950,000 users with a black market for procuring illegal goods and services. They accumulated so many users by providing an easy way to find these illegal goods.

According to the FBI the site generated 9.5 million bitcoins worth $1.3 billion in just two and half years.
